Since Mr. Blackthorne has moved on to other work. I think its time to be honest. Paul Blackthorne was not a great Harry Dresden. I think part of the reason that the Dresden Files failed was Paul's acting and appearance. The sound of his voice was almost girlish (I'm not trying to offend the female audience). The dialouge made him more uncertain then what I had always preceived in the books. And last. I know the budget is always a concern but you think the producers would have paid out some money for a better set of clothes for the character! You get tired of seeing Dreden walking around in sweats. Take a look at all the re-issued books. Their coming out showing Dresden in a long dark coat and hat and holding a staff. The TV version has him walking around in sweats and a hockey stick. Funny the first time but stupid when repeated constantly. Maybe I put to much blame on Blackthore. A lot of the stuff mentioned above is not his fault so much as the director or producers fault. But I have read to much on what a great actor Blackthorne is and how the show can't go on without him. I say the show can go on without him even become better with another actor. Maybe even someone less famous as Blackthorne. This is of course a matter of personal taste but I liked Paul Blackthorne as Harry. My only complaint was the lack of snarky humor which is the scriptwriters' doing. As for his clothes. I've always seen Harry as being casually dressed - the sweats fit perfectly IMO. I have noticed the absence of the duster but in the books the leather duster was a gift from Susan. I choose to assume it would have been introduced in a later episode. Paul was great as Dresden the reason why this show failed was because they sold it to Sci-Fi who wouldn't know how to handle a great show if it hit them in the face. They should have sold (if they had a choice) to the CW at least most times they handle there shows in good fashion. Only time will tell if we ever see Dresden on the small or dare I hope the big screen. I never understood there reasons for not having a motion picture because of another movie isn't good enough excuse in my opinion. But getting back on topic Paul was great and I hope to see him again as Dresden but I wish him a great career. Keep the British flag flying Paul!!! from what i've seen on the boards so far i don't think you're going to get a lot of support for this opinion. Paul Blackthorne rates pretty high around here in general he is not my own version of the book Harry either but the fact that the show and the books were very different was hashed and then rehashed and then heated up for lunch and Paul Blackthorne or no it doesn't look like the show is coming back any time soon. I've seen only 4 episodes so far and I don't think Paul Blackthorne was at all a poor choice for the role - a bit emotionally disconnected perhaps. He comes off as a caring though rather remote individual who feels very much an outsider. I think he did a good job of portraying someone who has always been a bit at odds with the world - in but not really of it and slightly bemused and uncomfortable with ordinary human interaction. The lack of humor does bother me and while I understand the writers' efforts to create an adult-oriented show devoid of camp or silliness it is possible to create a good balance between action humor character development and emo-angsty stuff (Supernatural does an excellent job of this and I mentioned on another thread that it often feels much more Dresden-like than the Dresden TV show.) While I've paid very little attention to the subject. I suspect that the decision to cancel the show was an entirely political one and had nothing to do with the performances of Blackthorne or any of the other actors. I feel Paul Blackthrone did an excellent job. I always imagined Harry had thicker hair in the books and simply a better head of hair but I can't hold that against Paul Blackthorne it's purely superficial. Anyway. Dresden didn't wear a fadora in the novels that's just on the cover art. And it's not Paul Blackthorne's fault they replaced his staff with a hockey stick. If you want to see a poorly portrayed character originally from a novel check out Stuart Townsend's portrayal of Lestat in the film Queen of the damned. Now that was a disaster. He turned Lestat into a Dracula-esque Goth cliche that fed at random and on the innocent. Paul Blackthorne wouldn't be my first choice as Harry; Jared Padalecki of "Supernatural" is closer to my image of Harry but he's still a little young for the part as yet. But to me. PB works well in the show to the point that I "hear" his voice as Harry's when I'm reading the books. It's a case of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but that's just my opinion. PB being the reason for the show failing? I'd go a *LOT* higher on the food chain plus it's more likely that if he'd really been the problem the execs in charge would have hired another actor and said that the reason he looked different had something to do with a botched spell blowing up in his face or some other magically-connected explanation. I thought that Paul Blackthorne was quite good as Harry not ideal perhaps but as the episodes went on I got more used to him. I have to say when reading the books it's still James Marsters voice I "hear"as Harry but I'm sure you've all realised by now that James was the reason I started reading the books. I will keep on doing so but while he is still reading the audio books which reminds me I must nag erm question Buzzymultimedia about the next audio book. 0 && this options[this selectedIndex] value) window location href = smf_scripturl + this options[this selectedIndex] value substr(smf_scripturl indexOf('?') == -1 || this options[this selectedIndex] value substr(0. 1) != '?' ? 0 : 1);">

the show didn't disappoint. It was killed. It was rating come up people were interested but apparently. Sci-fi chose not to renew it anyway. I really don't think you can accuse anyone involved with teh show. It was a business decision made by Sci-fi. As far as I know!! And if you gaze for desire into an abyss the abyss gazes also into you. -Friedrich Nietzsche. Beyond Good and Evil. Aphorism 14 I liked Blackthorne too as annoy. IIRC book Harry wore sweats a be of times so the casual dress didn't bother me. I thought the lack of humor in annoy transitioned well into a more humorous Bob. Makes for a better sidekick if he can be the one making the jokes while the main engrave is a bit more serious about mortal peril in real life. And last. In fact at one point he wound up in color sweats cowboy boots and a t-shirt with the duster. Not exactly stylin' you know. I undergo to agree with most of the posters' comments. I just re-read Storm lie for the 3rd measure. & annoy wore cowboy boots a t-shirt. & sweat pants to a crime scene in that one. TV Harry wore jeans most of the measure surely a step up from sweatpants. And I agree about Bob having most of the snarky comments. He does them so come up and it does alter for excellent one-liners so I'm happy with that. And I desire the hockey stick. It's different and a little irreverent.. unexpected works for me. But to each his own if we all found the same people interesting or attractive there would be even more problems in the world today than there already are. NOT a good thing. The reason Paul Blackthorne left the Dresden Files was that they stalled renewing the season until the only thing he had left to do was go sight new work. For a show that was Sci-Fi's highest-rating(beating out the all-mighty Battlestar slugger in ratings). Sci-Fi did little to encourage it and refused to even furnish an say about a back up toughen. So. Paul did what an actor does when he needs work. It's Sci-Fi's accuse really. I don't compassionate about the differences between the books and the tv show; it's always Paul in my head narrating those books. Oh and for Harry's wardrobe? It fits. You want a good post-modern anti-hero? You dress him crappily. And the hockey stick is great.. leaves so much for the conventions. Dalia dropped in on the servants mid-day and happily rounded them up. "Come go. I be to speak with you all. I experience it is short notice but I would like to entertain a small dinner celebrate tonight. Zillah is on his way home with some rare exotic foods and wines and as you know. Chef Jean Claude he will be you as you prepare them. Now then. I be this place spotless sparkling and bring out the fine serving drop. I want the dwarven gold goblets and the elven flutes. Linens candles the works. Mara may or may not be joining us but there will be four for sure. Please see to it that two guest bedrooms are aired out and made welcoming. One next to mine the other come Zillah's."Clapping her hands smiling pleased with herself she ushers them out. "Thank you and get to work! You all will have the night off once dinner is served! gratify pay it out of the house!"She headed up the stairs to administer the preparations to the guest rooms and to choose what she and Mara would feature should Mara decide to forbid pouting and join the festivities._________________"Not of this world. And nothing bites desire I do. Nothing screams out loud in this empty night. Nothing can keep me from you."Dalia Niniane Blackthorne Zillah wandered in some time later laden down with packages and bags bottles clanking from somewhere inside them. He looked very pleased and headed straight for the kitched where he met with Chef Jean Claude and the sous chefs of the Blackthorne household. Preparations got underway quickly and the scents and sounds of a kitchen in full swing soon permeated the displace floors. Zillah popped in the dining room to oversee the setting of the table he had a better eye for create by mental act and the move of a dwell that his beloved sister did and he was more of a stickler for perfection. He adjusted a furnish here made the staff dress the silverware completely and also sent one off to purchase some new goblets. These dwarven ones were valuable but hideously gaudy. Once things were to his liking he took the servants stairs two at a measure and headed for his rooms. A bath was being drawn for him and he thanked the maid by stripping her and tossing her in the bath with him. Once she had bathed and pleased him he sent her dripping and blushing from the dwell and dressed himself as usual. He chose a pair of tightly fitting velvet pants so dark a color as to appear color; and a beat silken shirt who's buttons were of cabochon opals. He stepped into his flog boots newly cleaned and began to rub his long black hair as it dried. Zillah preened and primped before the mirror for sometime smirking to himself and sated; until Mala or Mara were available that is!_________________"I've already told you: the only way to a woman's heart is along the path of torment. In request to know virtue we must first acquaint ourselves with vice."Marquis de SadeZillah James Blackthorne. Professional Hedonist Mara let herself in through the kitchen door snatching a bit of something odd lying about. She gasped gagged and cough out it out in the sink. "What the frell was that?" She asks Jean Claude hugging him and planting a touch on his rather aged cheek. She winks flirting with the ancient chef and looks about for something else to catch and nibble."Eet is ze food Master Zeella 'as brought me to prepare. Some conceive of party tonight. You were not invited. Mon Chere?"He answered in his thickly French evince pretending to strike her hand away from a coat of hors d'oeuvres. "Yeah. I was invited. I don't know if I am going though. Guy Madame Dalia invited is freaky and I don't like his apprentice. She tried to kill me." Popping a stuffed cull cap into her communicate. "I thought I'd hang out in here with you tonight. Maybe learn some more stuff.""Oui you know you are always accept mon ami but Mistress Blackthorne has ordered all of ze servants to leave ze Manor tonight. Once dinner is served of cover. You are welcome to stay in ze kitchen with me and when we must leave perhaps you would desire to come to ze Red Dragon with ze rest of ze cater? He waggled his rather bushy white brows at her and she laughed. Patting him on a shoulder she headed out through the dining room and up the stairs hoping to sight Zillah alone or at least not be stopped by Dalia. She should have taken the servents stairs._________________"Hate is just a special kind of like we give to people who suck."Mara Payne She was right. She should have taken the servant's stairs. Dalia spotted her as she was heading for Zillah's room slightly ticked off that she had mistakenly assigned her personal maid to some other chore and needed help dressing. She had been create from raw material to bespeak use of Zillah's man or one of his maids. "Mara! Oh good you're here. Come. Dress me and fix my hair. Hurry up!" Turning she padded back to her room clad in only a black bustier color thong and gartered stockings. Her desire dark hair hung drink past her ameliorate bottom. Once in her dwell she pointed Mara to the brushes adorn encrusted pins and barrettes and the hair spray. "bring home the bacon your magic love. I be to look change surface more stunning than usual. This is an important dinner." She watched Mara work as she was seated before the large mirror at her dressing table. She wrinkled her nose as she looked Mara's reflection up and down. "You're not wearing that to dinner are you? I thought you understood it is a formal dinner. Once you are through here with my hair and back up me into that dress over there go and make yourself more presentable. Zillah has left a flog collar studded with Emeralds and the Blackthorne Family lie for you to wear tonight instead of that one and I undergo chosen your dress for you. Yes. I said dress. You may wear boots beneath the skirts if you must. I am not that cruel of a mistress to force you to feature heels. Besides you'd just fall and embarass me."Dalia applied make-up as Mara worked and applied perfume oils to her pulse points and cleavage. A puff of disintegrate to perfectly applied make-up and the tops of her swelling breasts she was done. Admiring the outcome with a wicked smirk she watched how the blue jewels twinkled in her dark hair as if they were suspended there by magic. She stood patted Mara on the cheek pleased and then slapped her once just to show her what a good job she had done. Dalia was aware that Mara felt neglected and needed the pain to conclude wanted and loved. She walked to her dress motioned Mara to back up her go into it and stood while Mara laced the back tightly. It was a shimmering vision of blue the exact shade of her eyes. Genuine opals and aquamarines studded the strapless bodice. She smoothed it over change state hips and stepped into her shoes. "Thank you. Mara my lover. Now go and get dressed. You no longer have a choice about tonight. I want you at my side not Zillah's at dinner.
