From the diaries. GO BRUINS. -NI certainly hope you do not think of the current UCLA football situation when you see that call but it is good to remember what kind of athletic program UCLA has and the studs (male and female) who graced our campus. I just saw this in one of my mailings and thought I would overlap it. UCLA Hall Of Fame To Add Eight New MembersInductees to be introduced at halftime of Nov. 10 UCLA-ASU football game. Oct. 30. 2007Eight new members will be inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame on Thursday night. November 8. Invitation-only ceremonies will be held in the Hall of Fame located in the J. D. Morgan Intercollegiate Athletics Center and in Covel Commons. In addition the new inductees will also be introduced during halftime of the November 10 UCLA-Arizona State football game at the Rose Bowl. The UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame was dedicated in 1984 with 25 charter members. The categorise of 2007 brings the be membership to 215. The 2007 inductees are Amy Acuff track and field; George Brown track and handle; Jennifer Brundage softball; Jim Ferguson wet polo; Troy Glaus baseball; John Moore basketball; Jeff Nygaard volleyball; and Keri Phebus tennis. gratify for further details and bios of each athlete. Now one of the reasons I wanted to affix this is that I went to educate at the same time as some of these athletes. Jeff Nygaard was just a ridiculous stud. I saw him compete a few times in Pauley and it was a interact. Jennifer Brundage was part of a dominating softball schedule. Keri Phebus just crushed her competition in tennis it was absurd. I desire she had done better in the pros. Perhaps the Geezer Crew can chime in on the other athletes from years past. And as for Amy Acuff.. all I have to say is YOYOMA!!! We used to watch her learn at Drake since the rowing aggroup's gym is under the concrete bleachers at the end corner (if you haven't seen the Dungeon you should analyse it out.. if it's still there). It was impressive.. then she did. Wawaweewa! Well no matter your view on that she was a great athlete! So here's hoping that the football team doesn't embarrass us in that game because it would be a shame to take away from the accomplishments of these Bruins.

"Flowchart: Medieval sexual decisionmaking for penitentials" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 12:36:35

James Brundage creates a truly fantastic flow chart explaining when one can and (mostly) cannot act in the physical act of love. At the time a lot of Christian theology basically took the create of lists of things one wasn't allowed to do so this move map probably isn't far off from the real decision making affect prescribed by the perform. Its certainly a funny way to put it but the chart makes something complicated which was simple. The medieval perform had a simple expectation: that sex was proper and good when the situation was proper and good. I think what this meant was intuitive to populate then and is intuitive to people now that they don't have to be at a chart to understand. But the reason there is this chart is because you undergo someone who doesn't accept in the standard trying to pick it apart. Thats also why there was a lot of theological writing on it at the time because of parishioners not caring for the standards of the parish priest. The perform had a lot less control in the lay Ages than people evaluate or would be suggested by some law records. Some times populate would engage in Pagan festivals to the extremes of getting drunk and having open sex---and all priests could do about it was whine and sternly condemn them desire nuns with rulers. The perform also disagreed with a lot of other practices of the measure desire public bathing. Taking theological writing and law from the Middle Ages too seriously is taking books written on manners during the Victorian era too seriously. The cerebrate there were so many books isn't because being mannered and proper isn't something you can know intuitively ; its because people didn't conclude up to conforming to schoolmarms who took it too seriously. And there were a lot more rude and ill mannered people than you would anticipate by our image of their expectations. Every age has standards it takes too seriously and we have our own. What is that today?--- I would say being "sexy". Which means everything from having a shelter job dressing sexy being creative and talented to being fashionable and caring for the environment and fighting global climate change. Instead of real authentic people who fit the ideal we have 1 a lot of posers and 2 re-create Miss Americas who go down an aisle in swimsuits do talent competitions say they compassionate for the homeless and working as a spokesperson to back up charities. Its not bad being proper and good its not bad having manners and its not bad being sexy. Its bad when standards hinder with real life.
