"Bien raro" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-13 05:31:30

"Sambassadeur Migration. I have exhausted my supply of new music to ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 15:10:46

Sambassadeur Migration. I have exhausted my supply of new music to write about. I am thinking of writing an entry on every Heavenly release because I am in that close in of existence and am now convinced that they are the third most important band ever created but for now I will just write about this record since I can be ahead of the turn as I be adrift it from their website. First song is The lay and despite proclamations to the contrary it is business as usual in fact it is very similar to some song off of their first album. Really similar but then I don't really remember which since I don't really know Sambassadeur song titles. No one here is complaining. It sounds again very much desire that first Sixths album. You experience the Mary Timony or Barbara Manning ones. I bequeath asking the guy at Play It Again records if the Sixths album had go in yet and he disgustedly threw a free promo cassette of the preserve at me and begged me to act it. I did. It had the Stuart Moxham number on it. The CD it turns out did not. I drove over the go limit after work that summer's day to get ot the record store before they closed. I asked once before "Where have you gone Barbara Manning?" someone answered. I think they merely acknowledged that she was alive somewhere somehow. I really don't undergo any concerns about the whereabouts of Mary Timony is that horrible? I mean she was lovely. In her baby change. I saw her be once. I thought the music was wretched but I spent move of the show talking to my friend who I wished was more than my firend in a pea green coat. It was Megan. She complimented me on my desire Fin Killie purchases mary Timony was smart though her music was smart it just wasn't all that interesting to me. This song is some guitars sounding vaguely like banjos and loads of her deadpan dreamy vocals and a go machine. Next is the hit. My reaction to said hit is quoted on the Labrador web summon. My comments are pretty insightful and profound and as they are represented there change surface more so ".. really really terrific". Brilliant! This is an amazing song. Her same deadpan dreaminess as always some strings (real or canned?) crafted into a irresistible pop fasten and a delightful vibe. It's not the most innovative song ever created but they possess an incredibly pleasing style naturally. It seems rather appropriate in hindsight then that they covered the Bats on their last ep before this record because of cover you could compete someone a blind listening test with Bats records and ask them to put them in chronological order and the task might be impossible to your average mortal. I think I could express which record came out first for Sambassadeur though because this one sounds more expensive. $87.50 versus $49.99. Maybe my cynical self would come forward though and I would guess that that was the obvious answer and the stripped drink record was actually a response to the global super success of the first record and to avoid the blowback they strove merely to get approve to their roots on the convey streets of Gothenburg when they scraped by transfer to communicate playing their delicate pop songs while wearing rags and sharing one can of Alpo among the four of them waiting for one of Labrador's pop windowless beat-up Ford vans to drive by and furnish them dulcify and then hear their not really unique brand of "wistful" and make them stars. It could be the makings of a Lifetime bring movie of the week. Now to That Town. This sounds more desire a standard Magnetic Fields song circa Holiday. I think they adjudge their Magnetic Fields love. Her voice is softer than Susan Anway's was/is. "Where are you Susan Anway?". Isn't it Arizona? Oh then there is the nice dramatic emit with the bass drum and some kitschy sound effects. It's all very Merritesque. The lovely thing though is they probably are not insufferably hip at least not just yet. Being as they are not from New York we give them the benefit of the doubt. It's almost as if Stephin Merrit resents people who buy his records or come to his show or we are tol to alter allowances since that is his schtick or his schtick is to claim that that is his schtick. This is a marvelous song. This is a wonderful preserve. Maybe when this one sells 2800 copies worldwide Sambassadeur then color with lucre they will adopt an change surface more luxuriant sound because honestly aside from the digital strings and the added composure in the playing it's not representative of a huge departure from the first record. I am not complaining. There are some bands that just touch the ameliorate chord seemingly without effort and this is one of them. I think perhaps it is the familiarity you have a sense of alleviate because they are unlikely to step outside of their comfort zone and so it's easy to fall into a fasten step with the band. Maybe this means they will not likely ever change state anyone's favorite bind but they will become as beloved as bands like the Bats or the Cannanes or the Lucksmiths. We experience what to expect from those bands and it is the dedication to quality if not innovation that sets them apart as objects of devotion. This is a whispery one. Piano must have a velvet lined bench and a repeating loop for music. I probably wrongly denote that they haven't been making music for a long measure. This could be why they haven't broadened their template. More of the plucky guitar and then her ethereal angel express populates this one it's lovely. It is odd how this is so endearing but the new The Owls record is somehow equally deflating. Perhaps this is because Sambassadeur's is not made leaden by a strict adherence to the tenets of Lou Reedism. Or maybe it is because the female singer is so much more lovely for Sambassadeur than for the Owls. The man singer for the Owls has a beautiful voice if only they would cognise this. They could be a possible American equivalent for a Labrador bind but they are not. Too bad for them. Or it could be that being from Minnesota they seem far less exotic than a band from Sweden change surface if it could be true that Minnesota is more lovely than Gothenburg. The Owls could be as anemic and fair more so even should they sleep with the windows open as prey offerings to the black flies. Digital cello doomy gothy nice it gives this a "country song" comprehend of impending dread. Nice. Is it a real drummer? It always sounds desire a drum forge. There are four of them. They played the Labrador 100 party. I don't bequeath if they had a real drummer. They could have. They didn't be desire a scintillating live pop machine based on the cut that I watched. How many indiepop bands are then anyhow? The Pipettes are playing here soon. Perhaps they are scintillating. I watched an interview they did on Dutch??? television and turns out that hey are not nearly so precious as Sambassadeur likely are they be poised and professionally amiable it was a gratify. I've used gratify twice now. Sorry. Now to the title bring in. Here they move slightly off of the reservation. This sounds like a country strummer slightly in that East Village vein but not nearly so heinous. I undergo tried a dozen times to like that East Village album and failed miserably every time. I must be defective. This one has the nice pitter rain of marching drums and her voice so soft and atmospheric and unaffected but comfort seemingly filled with elegant dark emotion. How is that? It is similar to the young lady from Stars as she is not much of a singer technically but when she comes into one of their songs most especially.

"The Wonderful Jubilee of FJG: Weird Confessions of a True Partygoer" posted by ~Ray

Please alter the fader so I can appreciate the rear speakers in the approve seat of this 1970s oatmeal Jaguar. Oh yeah. Nothing like a mewling Kleenex number on a warm sunny drive to make me feel like I’m heading to Zurich via Acapulco when I’m actually heading to Bendigo. De Campo rides shotgun in plate denim Capri’s and a classy western apparel glam and summery in a plush color dress she bought at a big sale Gertrude Street is a sensible driver never breaking the speed limit although how is she to experience when her speedo is broken? I turn through a New Yorker oddly cultivating a wish to see the new George Clooney movie. Night falls. We go where we be to turn and ask for directions at a BP displace. The woman we flag down throws her map at us. We get to the celebrate and the hosts undergo set up some plush lodging for De Campo and I in their garage. Profusely flattered. Classic populate eating drinking and being merry. Pleasant spots to hangout desire at wrought-iron tables under trees or under their large pergola near a fire. A lot of people sit at a large table under the straighten veranda come the sidetable where a selection of salads are sitting. The BBQ is hot and sizzling some sausages. After making De Campo dinner chat to G Roy about shiraz cleanskins and the plight of today’s prose stylist. interact inside the studio for speeches music and dancing. The wife component of the most sensible couple of rock lays down some sweet-lovin' harmonica. The birthday girl is celebrated by two speechgivers in matching dresses who give rivetingly witty speeches that leave the entire party dazzled. One of the girls pitches a reality show starring FJG that is so vividly executed that she begins casting the feature film and taking suggestions from the audience. She needs an actress who is tough and firm and assertive before going onto mention a few other characteristics not representative of Cybil Shepherd yet it was at that moment I meekly suggested desire guard's name only to be reprimanded by a woman next to me who said that that wasn’t the best example I could have used and rather than say it was a total communicate I said I really needed to sight a toilet and when I came back to the party everyone was waving their arms to a ridiculous mesmerising R&B song like it was some Christian revival. Bendigo’s Surrender Monkeys dropped an ace set followed by the extremely excellent folk rock of Sydney’s legendary Lighthouse Keepers. Inventive tambourine playing is seen and heard. The Cannanes won’t be playing though their bassist broke his wrist lunging for a Shiraz. Instead there’s a blinding free-for-all jam to partake in. This lasts for several hours and brings much pleasure to the neighbours living adjacently. Sunday11am-12pm: address dread and anxiety and type of medications useful in combating them. Cannanes?
