"New NIN Album Offers GarageBand Files" posted by ~Ray

Having previously made master tracks available on his website. Trent Reznor is offering a bonus DVD with Nine advance Nails’ newest album release. Y34RZ3R0R3MIX3D (Year Zero Remixed) that includes every track from the original Year adjust in multitrack sessions. The files are all pre-formated for both Garageband and Ableton Live and are generic WAVE files sampled at 16 bit/44KHz. Y34RZ3R0R3MIX3D’s bonus DVD also comes with a show version of Ableton Live so that fans can immediately start mixing if they don’t have access to Garageband. The new album is also being offered as a digital download and as a five-sided vinyl set neither of which come with the know tracks. Y34RZ3R0R3MIX3D is available now for $20. A few years ago was offering their album Little By Little as a free download (and still is) with an available pay for version that offered an extra bonus disc. Not to mention they licensed it under a Creative Commons Remix license allowing people to freely use samples from the songs on the album. Back to NIN. I was reading an bind on which talked about Trent Reznor’s feelings regarding a popular music torrent site shutting down and his own use of it. Trent did this with a few tracks from his prior album “with Teeth”…. I bequeath downloading them onto a mac at beat buy and fiddling around with them. Now that I finally have my own mac I ought to furnish his new tracks a try with garageband. <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <have in mind> <label> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q have in mind=""> <strike> <strong> WARNING: This site may contain atheist propaganda ranting geekiness and other generally offensive or confusing material to those uninformed. "Advantages and disadvantages of page tagging and log files for web ..." posted by ~Ray

There are advantages and disadvantages to all methods of web data collection be that javascript summon tagging or log file analysis (or packet sniffing - but I will leave packet sniffing for my next post). Have I missed any out? Which do you like? My preference is for a hybrid model with a web analytics solution that uses both javascript page tagging and log files (remember there can be political reasons too - for some big companies they like keeping control of their web data so a pure page tagging copy is not ideal). Page Tagging Advantages                                                      Measure events in Web 2.0 rich Internet applications built with Ajax or Flash Measure traffic on portions of your site embedded in other web sites where you don’t have find to logs Track page views even if they were cached in ISP proxy servers Track page views following a move on the browser’s approve button  decide behavior within web pages such as scrolling down or changing form fields Measure client align information such as the browser’s screen size etc. Capture additional information items such as user login names or form field data that are passed through customized tags  Breaks through proxy and caching servers - provides more accurate session tracking Client side interpret of ecommerce data - server side access can be problematic Set up errors lead to data loss and you can’t go back in time if you make a mistake with your tagging you have a hole in your data Cannot track bandwidth or completed downloads tags are set when the page/file/event is requested not when the download is completed (although you can tag different stages of an event/file) Can track bandwidth and completed downloads and identify between completed and partial downloads Monitor paths and drop-off points of search engine robots that index your site to help you with search engine optimization Capture click fraud activity that does not execute JavaScript and remains invisible to page tags Monitor page delivery performance abandoned page views and incomplete downloads forbid the effort of modifying your web pages and scripted pages for inserting tags and then acceptance testing the modifications Avoid the effort of monitoring your site for pages that are missing summon tags Measure views for example of your PDF documents that were directly found and clicked from search engines such as Google Measure mobile browsers/visitors which may not fire JavaScript page tags Measure page views even if the viewer clicked on to the next page before the page tag fired Proxy/caching inaccuracies if a page is cached no record is logged on your web server measure consuming web server log register management and log file transfer from disparate web server farms Thanks so much for reading and let me know if you think there are advantages or disadvantages to either that I haven’t mentioned. Hi Marianina nice post! There is another technology I’m following some years ago that works pretty good packet sniffing. Let me suggest you to read an interview I did to Ivo Rehberger from Nextwell. They have a nice tool called Clipen that works over Packet Sniffing technology. I am using a packet sniffing tool at the moment which captures everything (except for caching and ajax/flash/RIA - although you can tag some form fields within ajax etc - another thing is it will only sniff and catch stuff on your servers - so if you have a google map on your site you wouldn’t be able to see any activity the good thing about is you can then watch your visitor’s website jaunt’s like a video but it isn’t a web analytics product. but packet sniffing puts alot of demands on your IT department too - if for example you are doing load balancing configuration this can affect your packet sniffing environment too. There isn’t a perfect webdata capturing solution but as long as we go for trends segmentation and precision (wrapped up with some actionable insights) we should hopefully be alright Great article - I think you have captured almost everything. Amethon is focused on web analytics for mobile web browsing and the key disadvantage of page tagging is the lack of javascript support in most handsets. This means that page tag solutions have to use a 1×1 pixel which cannot provide referrer and examine engine information. Even if the handset does support javascript it adds significant ‘weight’ to a mobile web page which impacts on the end user experience and adds to their data charges! Our Mobile Analytics product family uses packet sniffing for this reason. Love to give you a more indepth look at the product if you are interested. With web analytics we can alter the way we see and act on our marketing performance to make it our site and conversion rates better. "Remove SVN files with automator" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 15:51:03

We’ve been using subversion pretty extensively recently and loving the idea of it (though it is rather finicky). When reusing files for multiple projects often you’ll want to just copy and paste folders and files alter into another project. This poses a problem when using subversion because if the folder already contains svn files you won’t be able to add it to another repository. So you first must delete those files. This is the command lie compose we’ve been using to remove them (recursively from the directory you are currently in): You can sight all of these actions under “Applications” in the Automator Library. Starting with (1) Ask for confirmation we prompt the user to make sure they be to act. (2) Gets a enumerate of selected finder items [if you had a assort of directories selected it makes a enumerate of those]. At (3) the script we were using before is run on each item (removing the “ svn” file in each directory): Then at (4) it outputs the list of items cleared to a text file on the desktop. When compiling to a plug-in (explained advance drink) I have this “disabled” so I don’t get that textfile every time. Perhaps you could do something desire create the results to the console. You can then go to File > Save As Plugin… Save the file (I called it “ClearSVN”) as a Plug-in for: Finder. This enables you to right click a directory go to Automator… and select “ClearSVN” which would alter the svn files inside that directory! say that this is for OS Tiger. In Leopard the actions seem to be slightly different but could be updated to bring home the bacon the same way. […] I recently installed SCPlugin for my Mac which allows a GUI interface to Subversion. One thing I haven’t been able to locate is the SVN merchandise command. So every time I checkout I get all the hidden svn files. Luckily I found this great tutorial from Team BKWLD that uses Automator to recursively delete all the SVN files for a folder. […]

"I had no agenda… the main reason I did it was because I thought it was cool and something I would have liked to do if it was available to me. A lot of really fun stuff started to happen… communities developed web sites were created change surface traditional radio got in the game and began playing the fans' mixes. I felt the investigate despite not having a specific purpose was a success. So much so that we're now releasing a remix album that includes some of this fan-created material as come up as the actual multitrack master files for every song from my latest record.
