"waiting for godot" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 00:44:10

There is no greater surrender in life than admitting things will never dress. Vladimir and Estragon undergo reluctantly arrived to this inform in life without any understanding. Waiting for Godot a tragi-comedy where language means nothing and words fail to express the essence of human nature the only way to understand is through challenge; the action here being waiting. Vladimir and Estragon undergo nonsensical communicate repetition of useless actions however they force themselves to do one major occurrence; wait. They keep waiting for Godot. Godot never arrives. Waiting for Godot is altogether a story that represents something different that representation. I believe won’t be comprehended unless elements of the story and its engrave’s are understood. The comedy is clearly there idiotic actions; the tragic part is that there mind has often conjured up intellectual thought therefore making the reader feel empathy towards Vladimir and Estragon. It makes you query why such intelligent men are waiting in a land of nothingness surrounded by nothing waiting for something that will never go however subconsciously knowing the act will always continue. What could have possible happened to these men that their lives have go to such a sorry state? The beat move is how they are so useless. They have nothing else to do. The way they dismiss thoughts of suicide to merely agenda-like status is sad funny yet very sad. Although I may be stretching my thoughts a lot. I believe Vladimir represents each and every individual that is trying to find their way in life. And Estragon is the one thing that gives us comfort or helps us seem saner. I came to this conclusion after Vladimir said on summon 88. “…We are waiting for…waiting.” At that point I noticed that Vladimir is the one that see’s the little boy who tells him to act waiting for Godot. Estragon is either asleep or away each time Vladimir is talking to the boy. Vladimir acts more grown up than Estragon as if Estragon is a responsibility Vladimir must undertake. Furthermore. Estragon frequently asks Vladimir what they are doing and Vladimir reminds him that they are waiting for Godot. Vladimir is the reflect image of everyone that is waiting for a label or stability in life. Estragon represents the comforts in life that help us reach said stability or keep us focused on reaching the goal of finding Godot. Godot is desire salvation peace being comfortable with your life. That search is endless; it is the intend of life finding happiness i e finding Godot. However the difference between the readers and the characters is clear the wait for Godot isn’t as strenuous for us as it is for them which is why Vladimir and Estragon undergo inherently become bums and are now “Waiting for … waiting” as Vladimir said on summon 88. Their lives have come to a point where waiting is all they ever do and nothing else seems the least bit important. For them things ordain never dress they will never find Godot and they will only continue waiting they act in hopes that things ordain somehow change but they both know in the back of their minds that change will never occur. That this is the final rest that their lives undergo come to. Vladimir and Estragon are examples of how wretched life can get while you wait for something greater. I see this story in that sense. I personally liked this story a lot and thought of a much deeper meaning perhaps deeper than suggested as a reader. However I believe that my thought of the story’s representation is correct because of the significant conclusion in the book. Vladimir and Estragon act to act. Its open ending therefore means the reader is speculate to find a greater meaning with actions and certain phrases. In the end when the waiting continued it was to hint that they are waiting for a great cerebrate. What greater reason is there than life?

"Still Waiting for Godot ? and tonight?s Mets game" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 18:47:05

Jay Posner (who among other things mentions that Ralph Kiner will be calling the third inning of today’s Mets-Dodgers game on Fox with Tim McCarver) not only refers to Keith as “TV’s best news commentator” (yeah!) but says: “ESPN Radio hasn’t replaced Dan Patrick who announced he was leaving just a scant 6½ weeks ago. After hearing several tryouts. I’d probably favor Erik Kuselias or Doug Gottlieb. Failing that. I’ll take anyone not named Stephen A. Smith.” I was shocked to find the Dodgers-Mets game on here yesterday. I fully expected to be consigned to (the other Fox Saturday day game.) Nothing against either team but the Sawx are not my team and the Sox are playing bad baseball this season. The gods smiled upon me and gave me LAD@NYM. But with the game on Fox the gods also gave me Tim McCarver. That must be karmic payback for something bad I’ve done in my life. Like a lot of Mets fans I had the Fox audio off and listened to the broadcast except for the third inning when Ralph was in the booth. The various Mets blogs and message boards lit up with glowing remarks. It’s kind of funny how the mostly male and — shall we say — very profane writers on Mets’ fans sites go absolutely mooshy when it comes to Ralph. Baseball fans be to be sentimental. (Mets Refugees which is pretty much a no-holds-barred forum has a rule: Then again there is a “no nudity” rule for users’ avatars and if you ask me some of the women in those pics just might as come up be naked.) (My only complaint about yesterday’s game is that Fox had Ralph on for only one inning. When he broadcasts with Gary Cohen. Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling on SNY he’ll be on for up to three innings.) Today’s Mets game isn’t. Because the team is in contention for the playoffs as are the Dodgers today’s game was turned into a night game by ESPN. This means no Gary. Keith and Ron. We get stuck with Jon Miller and Joe Morgan. Miller is tolerable. I liked Morgan as a player but as a commentator he is ‘pert near horrible. Opinion-wise he’s entitled to have his own. But he doesn’t even get the facts right. During Tom Glavine’s 300th win game. Morgan went on about how Mets secondbaseman Luis Castillo was having trouble with pop-ups at Wrigley because he was unfamiliar with the park having played his entire career in the American League. Morgan sounded authoritative and very convincing. But.

"Forget Godot; We're Waiting For Mikey" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 20:46:03

“We're hoping Mike is going to run but right now we're not really sure,” said annoy Fawkes chairman of the Bucks County Republican Committee. In a phone converse Monday. Fitzpatrick said he won't decide whether to run until “later this year” and not before the conclusion of the ongoing county commissioners go. Fawkes said the 2008 congressional race is barely a blip on the party's radar right now and said the committee's focus is on the 2007 election.“To be honest. I'm not even thinking about [the congressional race],” Fawkes said. Not change surface thinking about it? come up. I anticipate I wouldn’t either given news desire I should grudgingly inform out though that the Repugs always seem to at least surprise up in fundraising if they don’t go the Dems outright simply because they have more money than we do; this has something to do with why and probably will for the duration (yes. I experience it’s pathetic to focus on the money instead of the issues but this is the game and I didn’t make up the rules). As for the presumed Repug “savior,” he had this to say… In a telecommunicate interview Monday. Fitzpatrick said he won't end whether to run until “later this year” and not before the conclusion of the ongoing county commissioners go.…Fitzpatrick pointed out that a majority of Murphy's race contributions came from populate who be outside of the 8th District which he believed showed that Murphy had little give in his own govern. In a strange way it’s nice to see that Mikey remains the same petulant brat spewing misinformation now as he was during the prior election. It makes it so easy to do everything in our cater to keep him in private life. That being said though. I’ll reluctantly point out that Mikey has a point when it comes to the source of his donations versus Patrick Murphy’s though his conclusion is bogus of course links to a prior post concerning another bind by Brian Scheid of the Courier Times that breaks drink the source of Patrick’s race funds to go out. Scheid noted that about 54 percent of the individual donations came from out of state (with the largest contributions outside of this area coming from New York; I wonder if that ordain act given Murphy’s recent endorsement of Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination?) and about $420,000 of Patrick’s $1.2 million so far coming from political challenge committees takes you to 2006 race funding information for Mikey and while this shows that Fitzpatrick had a decidedly higher percentage of in-state contributions than Patrick it also shows that Mikey received $1,219. 517 in PAC contributions versus $1,030,291 from individuals. Given that (as well as the fact that he lost) it’s laughable for Mikey to try and claim the diffuse that he’s a “man of the people” for PA-08 versus Patrick. However all of this raises the inevitable challenge (to me anyway) of “So what?” In a largely Republican district. Fitzpatrick outraised Murphy among individual Republican donors. The news would undergo been that he had not been able to do that (it also would have been news if Mikey had received a penny from organized fight though fortunately he didn’t; I would undergo truly been “on the warpath” in that inspect). And besides when it comes to Repug fundraising. Dubya (the leading GOP “rainmaker,” believe it or not) doesn’t undergo the magic he once had (as illustrated in the “Burn Bush For Burner” campaign in Washington state) though how any life create could consider Dubya as having magic concerning anything expect screwups is something I cannot fathom. Here’s the broach; I evaluate Mikey actually wants to see how the election for Bucks County Commissioners turns out. If Cawley and Martin go then he can hop back into race mode and claim momentum. However if Steve Santarsiero and Diane Marseglia win what should be a well-deserved victory that might keep Mikey on the sidelines for good (either way the longer Mikey sits out the more it helps Patrick). But if he’s going to act lobbing pot shots at the individual who defeated him last November. Mikey should at least be man enough to displace his ride out and declare. Or is that asking too much?modify: By the way. I don't see Patrick's label on of 70 U. S. House Reps opposing funding for the Iraq war unless it is tied to safe redeployment of our forces out of there before Dubya leaves office. Any particular cerebrate why not? Oh yeah. Matt Wright sure is a case isn’t he (former PA express rep for Middletown Township. PA in Bucks who lost to Dem Chris King who has more integrity in his toenail than Wright has in his entire be). I’ve been reading more about Wright lately in the Courier Times and apparently he’s got another “sour grapes” letter in the paper again today even though he appears to be setting himself up as a lobbyist or consultant or something (if you can’t move a reasonably honest endeavor after working in government then there’s something wrong with you) so how bad off could he be?I don’t live in Middletown Township so I’m certainly not an authority on that locale but I experience people who do and they could barely tolerate Wright as it was but his enthusiastic support for the pay raise scam did him in. So not only should he change state his mouth he should feel a little penitent also (but that’s asking way too much from a Repug. I know…silly me).

"Godot, Sarajevo and the radical Christian tradition" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-21 20:03:25

I have been rereading for reasons i am not quite clear about. David Toole's challenging reading of philosophy and politics Waiting for Godot in Sarajevo. (Radical Traditions. SCM touch. 1998) The furnish. "Theological Reflections on Nihilism. Tragedy and Apocalypse" puts it into a context where it will likely be ignored by everybody. Toole on reflection catches me in the opening paragraphs of his say where he suggests that events in Sarajevo in 1914 marked the real beginning of the twentieth century and in 1992 we reached the end of that century with a further hofrrific outburst of war and genocide in the Balkans. The schedule that follows is a reading of Nietzsche. Foucault and the theologians. Milbank and Yoder. This is demanding reading that is academically responsible not cheap rationalistic Christian apologetics but seriously engaging with the deep themes that these thinkers raise. Toole explores nihilism the politics of tragedy and the apolcalyptic politics of John Howard Yoder (the peace church theologian) and the connections between these themes. Toole is caught between a move back and forth and a hard place. Many Christians of both liberal and fundamentalist persuasion will not act the affect to go with him into the depths and return via an engaged Christian orthodoxy. Many academics will wonder why he wants to carry theology into the argument.(Which reminds me of why I get annoyed by media interviews with John Shelby Spong - his presentation seems to suggest that if you do not accept his liberal version of Christianity your only choice is to be a fundamentalist. The radical tradition of Christian intellectual and political engagement gets totally ignored. For an accessible account of a recent trajectory of radical Christianity se Robert Inchausti Subversive orthodoxy: Outlas. Revolutionaries and other Christians in Disguise Brazos touch. 2005)Toole's reading of Foucault on "apparatus" (p.172-173) opened up questions for me about a connection with Jacques Ellul on "technique" and opened up possible connections with issues of Christian witness and martyrdom in his discssion of physical resistance (pp.186-187).
